Preserving "Forgotten" & Air-Dried Bouquets
Have your wedding flowers been sitting in a storage box, closet, or hanging upside down? You don't have to leave them hidden away.
Many brides assume that if their bouquet wasn't preserved immediately after the wedding, it's too late to create a lasting keepsake. Fortunately, that isn't the case! I regularly work with air-dried and stored bouquets—including pieces that have been packed away in boxes for a year or longer—to turn them into permanent, custom resin artwork.
Here is an inside look at how I work with older bouquets and the process behind rescuing your flowers.
The Bouquet Rescue Process
Working with pre-dried or aged flowers requires extra care, patience, and specialized techniques compared to fresh blooms. Here is how I bring your stored bouquet back to life:
Step 1: Initial Assessment & Inspection
Because flowers stored in boxes or closets can absorb humidity or suffer crushing, I start by evaluating every stem. I carefully inspect the petals for structural integrity, hidden moisture, and fragility to determine which blooms are ready for casting and which need preparation.
Step 2: Gentle Steaming & Reshaping
Flowers that have been packed in a box for months often arrive flattened or stiff and brittle. Depending on the species and overall delicacy of the flower, I can use a controlled steaming process to gently soften the petals. This makes them pliable enough to carefully open up, reshape, and restore their natural dimension without snapping the stems.
Step 3: Color Palette & Antique Tones
Over time, air-dried flowers naturally lose their bright pigments and shift into soft, warm, vintage tones. Rather than fighting these changes, I design around them. The result is a romantic, antique color scheme that highlights the history and character of your original flowers.
Step 4: Reinforcement & Layout Design
Older flowers become ultra-fragile. Before pouring resin, I meticulously prep and anchor each bloom into position. I design a layout tailored to your chosen resin piece—whether a decorative tray, block, or display piece—ensuring the arrangement displays your best blooms.
Step 5: Crystal-Clear Resin Encapsulation
Finally, your flowers are encapsulated layer-by-layer in high-quality resin. Once cured, the resin seals and protects your delicate petals permanently—shielding them from dust, humidity, crumbling, and further age decay for years to come.
Real Client Spotlight:
I recently completed a project for a bride who kept her original bouquet stored in a cardboard box for an entire year. The flowers were compressed and extremely delicate, but after gentle steaming, careful preparation, and resin casting, her forgotten bouquet became a display-worthy resin heirloom.
